Project Dispatch drawings for June

Here are this month’s Project Dispatch drawings I’m sending out. You can subscribe on Etsy if you want drawings in your mailbox next month :)

"Dan Aykroyd's Personal UFO" drawing

“Dan Aykroyd’s Personal UFO,” 6 x 6″ on bristol, pen & watercolor pencil & marker

This was drawn inspired by watching the documentary Dan Aykroyd Unplugged on UFOs, which is quite a terrible film but is also incredibly strange/hilarious and helped me fall asleep several nights.

I feel as though Dan Aykroyd is more of a ‘personal UFO’ kind a person than a ‘personal jet’ sort of man, and this is the kind of UFO I imagine he would like to fly.  IF ONLY.

"No mouth" drawing

“No mouth,” 6 x 6″ on bristol, pen & marker

This was inspired by Hello Kitty,  who I think is pretty cute but disturbs me with her lack-of-mouth-ness.  I kept thinking about Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and how a lack of mouth makes it impossible to drink from any cups — plain or ornate — and was imagining what it would be like to go on an Indiana Jones-esque adventure like that without a mouth.  It would totally suck!

However, this girl is attempting to make up for her lack of mouth with an intricate dress.  I think she works it, though she probably wouldn’t last very long on an Indiana Jones mission.

A slightly aged disposable camera

Finally got a disposable camera I’ve had for about a year developed, with some pictures more than a year old and others taken last weekend. I guess I still look pretty young, but I look really young in these pictures.

Painting with blueberries & Oompa Loompa Geishas

asymmetrical haircut

“asymmetrical haircut” (9 x 12″ bristol, acrylic & pen & blueberry juice

Haven’t used paint in any way for a long time.  It feels kind of good to use it now.  Though, being the rather sloppy person I can be, there’s little bits of paint everywhere on my desk.  I keep pressing fingers on my desk, only to hold them up to my face with still-damp smudges of green and black paint on them.

I managed to venture outside my air conditioned haven (sorry, environment), and the heat wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  Still, I am a bit worried that I’ll end up turning into a (geisha-esque) Oompa Loompa by the end of July…

This Oompa Loompa Wants Pudding and/or Flan

"pudding mtn" drawing

“Pudding Mtn”, 9 x 12 on Bristol. Copic markers, pen, watercolor pencils.

Happy June, everyone!

Summertime has lots of perks, including vacation time, breathable cottons, and sunglasses [not to be worn indoors, however]. I hope you guys all enjoy these things.

Unfortunately, summer also brings — at least to the Mid-Atlantic – a horrendous downpour of sunshine and humidity that my Siberian blood (I’m sure I must have been Siberian at one point) VERY GREATLY DISLIKES. My skin is turning into a sallow shade of golden-orange from all this sunshine, and I fear I will turn into an Oompa Loompa any second now. Also, my summer has not been entirely wonderful so far, what with days sweltering under a hot car roof, a broken video card, not owning a stove just yet, etc.

However, I do know of a cure to beat these summertime blues: PUDDING AND/OR FLAN. I am not 100% sure this cure will work for everyone, and I haven’t even tried out the cure for myself yet, but what could be any better than tasty, sweet, and cold substances that are yogurt-like in consistency?

So just you wait, summer, I’m going eat at least 29109lbs worth of pudding and flan this summer; I’ll also drink 2910 gallons of lemonade for extra measure. So take that.
